Steel Garage Doors
Steel doors are the most common type of garage doors and usually more cost-effective than wood doors. Several colors are offered for your garage door by most manufacturers. You also have the choice to paint your garage door to match your home. There are three separate types of steel doors:
Single layer door: Single layer steel garage doors are cut from a single sheet of galvanized steel. Singe layer doors are usually the most economical of all steel garage doors.
Double layer door: Double layer steel garage doors have a galvanized steel skin on the outside with a thick layer of either polystyrene or polyurethane as a backer. The backer provides additional insulation and soundproofing to the door.
Triple layer door: Triple layer steel garage doors are assembled of the same materials as double layer doors with the addition of a galvanized skin on the inside to preserve the polystyrene or polyurethane from damage. Because there’s an added layer of steel this makes triple layer doors the most solid, sturdy and most soundproof of all garage doors. You also have the choice to add thicker insulation for greater R-Value.
